The example below should have a red change bar to the left of the line that says 'With a change bar' (several lines down):

The example below should have a red change bar to the left of the text (several lines down). However, the change bar should span the entire width of the element with a blue background. The blue background should not obscure any text however, because it is preceded by a BR element and thus all the anonymous inline content that follows it will be rendered on top of it.
